February on the shoulder of Overlook Mountain is blue at the edges and entirely serious about cold. Overlook Mountain Trailhead clears Woodstock snow where the drifts pile deepest — plowing driveways and parking areas, shoveling entries and walkways, spreading salt on packed spots that have turned glassy. High ground takes a storm sooner and holds it longer, and the routes are planned around that simple fact. Coming back down a cleared drive with the mountain still white behind you is hard to improve on.
