Route 4 climbs out of Whitehall past bare rock ledges, and the yards up there are cut into the hillside a terrace at a time. Stomp's Landscaping mows those pitched lawns at midday in July, when the heat sits still and the only shade is whatever the ledge throws down. Trimming around outcrops and stone walls takes longer than the open ground, and it is where a lawn either looks finished or does not. Autumn brings the leaf work back down off the slope in armloads. Every hillside yard in town has its own angle, and they get learned one by one, by feel.
