Oatka Creek slides over limestone shelves on its way across Wheatland, cold and clear even in August, and the ground it cuts is old quarry country. Northeastern Landscaping tends the lawns above it — mowing through the growing months, trimming tight to trees and hydrants, edging where turf runs up against gravel and walk, and cleanups when the season turns. October afternoons here are made for the work: cool air, low sun, the poplars going yellow along the water, the grass still growing just enough to want one more pass. A lawn cut and cleared in that light looks finished in a way a summer lawn never quite manages. They work through Wheatland, Scottsville, Mumford, Churchville and the roads out toward Chili.
