April in the low, wet ground near the West Seneca creeks is loud with peepers, and the grass comes on so fast it seems to happen overnight. First cuts of the year are the most satisfying ones — the winter matting lifted, the lawn suddenly awake and standing straight. From there it's a matter of returning before the yard gets away from anyone: even passes, clean borders, nothing left ragged along the fence. Green is the whole point, and around here it arrives in a rush and stays generous well into fall. Lawn care for the houses in between, kept simple and kept up.
