In April the Minisceongo runs full through West Haverstraw, and the yards along it come back green a week ahead of everybody else's. Falling Branch Lawncare & Landscaping opens there with spring cleanup — winter litter off the turf, beds cut back to a clean edge, the first mowing taken before the growth gets tall on anyone. From May onward it is the weekly round: cutting, trimming, edging, clippings carried off. There is a plain kind of satisfaction in a border that follows the walk exactly. Fall brings the leaves and the last low cut, and that is the year.
