The Moose River runs dark past Thendara and the light hangs on past nine in June, which is finally when the lawns of Webb come into their own. Northrop Lawn care keeps them that way — cutting on a regular turn, trimming around rock and root, and clearing the leaves and needles that come down early under McCauley's slopes. Mountain yards are rarely flat and almost never square, so in places the work is more hand than machine. Finished on one of those long northern evenings, a cut lawn holds the last of the light along its edges. That is a good thing to leave behind at the end of a day.
