From the high ground near Wheeler Hill the Hudson goes wide and slate-gray, and the land steps down toward it in shelves that somebody had to shape by hand. Ardisi Landscaping & Design works in that grain — laying out beds and plantings that follow the fall of a property instead of fighting it, then keeping the lawn cut and edged so the design still reads in August. When the wind comes up the river in January, the same trucks are out plowing drives and clearing the stone steps that lead down to them. A yard that looks inevitable took drawing, digging and a lot of coming back. Ardisi does that work in Wappinger and the river towns beside it.
