Walton sits in a bowl of Catskill hills with the West Branch of the Delaware running straight through the middle of it, and that shape decides the year. Summer means mowing, trimming, edging and cleanups on lawns that lean toward the river; winter means plowing those same driveways back open before anybody has to climb one on foot. Landscaping star works both halves of the calendar. Fog fills the valley on August mornings and burns off by nine; in February that same valley holds cold like a cellar. Either way the measure is identical — a property that looks cared for from the road.
