Snow starts early on the back roads out toward Vestal Center — a quiet evening fall that whitens the shoulders before anyone in the valley has switched on a wiper. By late April the same roads need mowing, and the work turns to even cuts, sharp borders and trimming around the mailboxes and stone walls.
