Take one street in West Corners and look at it twice in a year. In June, V & R Lawn Maintenance and Snow Removal has been down it with mowers and trimmers, and the lawns run to the curb in even, combed lengths. In January that same street is a row of driveways opened to the pavement, banks squared off at the ends, tire tracks the only thing written across them by nine in the morning. Between those two pictures sits a year of ordinary appointments kept around Union and the towns beside it. Grass or snow, the measure never changes: whether the place looks cared for when you pull in.
