YORK RAKES

About YORK RAKES

Climb any road out of Unadilla and the land stands up fast — hayfields on the shoulder of the hill, a line of hardwoods along the top, the valley laid out below in the blue haze of a late afternoon. YORK RAKES keeps lawns on those slopes, where a mower gets walked as much as driven and every yard has its own tilt. Mowing, trimming out the fence corners and the stone piles, spring cleanup once the frost heaves settle, and then the long leaf work of October. A hill lawn cut clean has a particular look to it — the light rakes across sideways and shows every pass. Worth doing right for that alone.
