A Bronx snowstorm announces itself on the Grand Concourse first — the lamps catch it, six lanes go silent, and the whole ridge from the stadium up to Fordham turns one soft color. Able Snow Patrol is out in that hour, plowing, shoveling and spreading salt while the borough is still asleep. Apartment stoops, parking aprons, the ramps that fall away from the Concourse toward Jerome Avenue: each one wants its own line, and each one gets it. By the time the buses start running, the walk is bare, the pile is out of the doorway, and nobody has to think about it. That is the entire point of a night's work done right.
