Syracuse took its nickname from the brine that once bubbled up along the south shore of Onondaga Lake, and the city has been arguing with winter ever since. Salt City Snow & Lawn takes both halves of that argument: plowing, shoveling and salting through the long white stretch, then mowing and trimming once the ground lets go in March and the lake ice finally breaks up. Around here the two are really one job — showing up at the same address twelve months a year. A driveway cleared to the pavement in February and a lawn cut sharp in July are the same promise made in different weather. The name is a local joke and an accurate description at the same time.
