Take one block in Mattydale at seven in the morning and watch it twice in the same year. In June, Phillips Lawn Care is halfway down it behind a mower, the sun already high, the trimmer squaring up around the mailbox posts. In December it's the same block at the same hour in the dark with the lights on, a plow pushing a clean lane from garage door to street. Syracuse asks a property owner for both, and there's something to be said for handing the whole calendar to one set of hands. Either way the street looks looked-after, and that's what the neighbors quietly register.
