A year on the North Side can be told in two sounds: a mower in July along the streets off Salina, and a plow blade scraping the same asphalt in January. Medinas Lawn & Snow lives at both ends of it. Summer means trimming around fence posts and hydrants, keeping a hundred small city yards square and clipped; winter means being awake at four so a driveway stands open at seven. Syracuse hands out both extremes and very little in between, and the changeover often happens inside a single November week. Whichever season it is, the measure never changes — the property looks cared for from the sidewalk.
