In January the wind comes straight up off the Lower Bay and across the boardwalk at South Beach, and whatever falls in Ocean Breeze does not stay where it landed. Suncoast Maintenance LLC plows and shovels through exactly that — driveways opened, walkways cut down to the pavement, salt laid where the wind builds its drifts against a garage door. Storm nights out here run long and strangely quiet, streetlights full of moving snow and the truck working its route in the dark. The pride is in the return trip nobody asked for, because that second push is what keeps a drive open until daylight. Bare concrete at sunrise with the bay going pink beyond the dunes is the whole job in one picture.
