Noon in mid-July on the Vermontville road is about as bright as this country gets — hard blue overhead, hay going up in the fields, and lawns growing as fast as they will grow all year. Sunshine Lawn Care runs right along with it: weekly mowing while the season is at full tilt, trimming the fence lines and around the woodpile, edging walkways and drives, and clearing yards out in spring and again after the leaves come down. Up here the green window is short enough that a missed week is visible from the road, so the schedule is the real service. There is something cheerful about a bright, level lawn in a place better known for its winters. Cut, blown off, gate latched — and the yard looks like summer for another seven days.
