In May the hydrangeas around Lake Agawam are still all leaf and intention, and the beds beside them want weeding before the season gets loud. Botanist Lawn and Garden works both halves of a Southampton property — the mown ground and the planted ground — cutting and edging the lawn, then turning to the borders where mulching, weeding and pruning decide how July will look. A garden this close to salt air has opinions, and the trick is to work with what already thrives here rather than argue with it. Grass gets its weekly pass, beds get theirs, and by June the whole yard reads as one piece. Nothing dramatic — just a place that looks tended every time you pull in.
