About Carl Bongiorno & Sons, Inc.

When a nor'easter climbs the coast, Setauket hears it first as wind in the harbor and then as snow going sideways past the streetlights. Carl Bongiorno & Sons, Inc. is out in the middle of that, plowing driveways and lots, shoveling walks, spreading salt on the slick spots the Sound air makes of everything. North-shore snow comes heavy and wet and packs like sand, so clearing it right means getting back before it sets. By first light the driveways sloping down toward the water are open and dark and passable, and the day is allowed to happen. That is the whole of it.
