The Mohawk swings past Scotia in a slow gray curve, and in January the wind coming down that river valley has a real edge to it. Wesscapes runs the winter side of the work — plowing driveways, clearing walkways, treating ice — often finishing a route before the lights along Mohawk Avenue give up for the morning. When the thaw comes and the flats near Collins Park go green, those same properties come back onto a regular turn of mowing, trimming, edging and cleanups. This is a village of front porches and short walks to the door, and both halves of the job come down to one thing: a clear path and a neat yard, ready before anybody needs them. Either way, the truck is out early.
