Out past Princetown the driveways stop being driveways and start being roads — quarter-mile lanes with a bend in the middle and a bare field on the windward side that hands over everything it catches. Dittmer's Excavating brings weight to that problem. Snow goes all the way back to the shoulder instead of stacking where it would only narrow the lane by the next storm, turnarounds are opened wide, and the last hard drift at the road gets carried off the apron rather than left for the town plow to argue with. At the house end, entries and walks are cleared and salted. When the wind is still running at dawn, a lane you can simply drive out of is worth a great deal.
