Up in the hills toward Greenfield the frost leaves the ground slowly, and mud season hands back yards that are flattened, gritty and gray. King Enterprises starts there each spring with cleanups, then mowing and trimming as the grass wakes and edges cut back into the walks and drives. By midsummer the routine has gone quiet — cut, trim, blow off the hard surfaces, go. Then the year turns and those same driveways need plowing, those same walks need shoveling and sand, sometimes twice before breakfast. Stone walls and old maples make for beautiful properties and awkward corners, and both get worked around.
