Out at the Griffiss park the lots run wide and the wind has nothing at all to slow it down, so the snow does not sit — it travels, and it piles exactly where you least want it. Mac Contracting works that kind of ground in the dark hours, running the pattern that stacks the banks at the far edge instead of across an entrance. Rome winters are long and gray and they arrive in waves; a lot that is clear at midnight can want a second pass by five. That is the whole assignment: watch the sky, go back out, be done before the first car turns in. Bare pavement at daybreak, and nobody has to give it a thought.
