Southwest of the city, Black Creek runs through Chili under a low winter sky that hardly bothers to get light before noon. Whittier's Landscape works the snow out there — plowing drives and lots, clearing steps and walkways, spreading salt where shade holds ice all day long. Dawn is the hour that counts: opening a driveway while the house is still dark, so the day begins without a shovel in it. When a storm keeps going, the blade goes back down and the route runs again. Chili, Gates, Churchville, Scottsville and the southwest corner of Monroe County are the rounds.
