Glaciers left this end of the island full of sand, cobble and shallow kettle hollows, and every old field around here has a stone pile at its corner to prove it. Soil & Stone Landscapes works with that ground — mowing, edging, trimming, mulch and cleanups through the growing months, plowing and salting once the cold sets in. March is the hinge of the year: frost heaving out, gravel to rake back into place, the first green showing under last autumn's leaves. October runs the same reel backward, and the truck gets loaded differently. Whatever month it is, the goal is a property that looks composed, across Riverhead and the hamlets nearby.
