About Life Landscaping

February arrives down the Route 58 corridor sideways, and by four in the morning the whole run of it is one long white blank. Life Landscaping is out in that — plowing driveways down to pavement, shoveling walks, spreading salt where ice sets up hardest at the foot of a slope. The work gets measured in doors that open easily and cars that get out on time, in a lot cleared before the first headlights turn in. Storms here rarely arrive politely; they come off the water and stack up fast, and the answer is simply to be awake ahead of them. Clearing runs through Riverhead and the hamlets around it, pass after pass, for as long as it keeps falling.
