About Fermin Landscaping

September on the Sound side of Riverhead has a particular light — low and gold, catching the shingled barns and the last of the standing corn. Fermin Landscaping is out working in it, mowing lawns that ran hard all summer and are finally slowing down, cutting the edges back, blowing the walkways clean. Earlier in the year it is cleanups and fresh mulch and hedges taken in hand before the heat arrives; later it is leaves, load after load, until the grass gets its light back. The pleasure is in the contrast — the shaggy before, the sharp after, the line where lawn stops and bed begins. That line is worth getting right, and it gets got right every visit.
