A February morning in Red Hook begins in the dark: Route 199 white from edge to edge, the orchards silent under it, and a plow truck already moving. Scaffidi Lawn Care & Snow Plowing opens drives, lots and walkways so people can get out of their yards and on with the day, then comes back through for the second push once the wind has filled everything in again. By May the blade is off and the mowers are running, cutting, trimming and edging those same properties in a completely different color of light. Two seasons, one list of driveways, and the identical measure either way — pavement bare, grass level, nothing left in the path. Plain work, plainly judged, twelve months a year.
