East of the village the roads climb toward Milan, gravel drives running back through hedgerow and hayfield to houses you cannot see from the pavement. Dan's Lawn & Landscape mows and maintains those places — the long approaches, the wide side lawns, the strip along the stone wall that nobody thinks about until it has been done. August is the test, when grass is dry at the top and thick at the root and it still takes a careful hand to leave a level, even cut. Beds get edged and weeded, the trim work is finished by hand, and the clippings leave with the truck. When the maples let go, the same properties get cleared, and the hill goes into winter bare and orderly.
