Up toward Sloatsburg the driveways turn to gravel and ledge, curving in under hemlocks where a plow has to know the ground before the blade goes down. Terracraft takes Ramapo's winters on that kind of terrain — plowing drives and lots, sanding the grades, clearing turnarounds and walks so a car gets out on the first try. December nights go dark early up here and stay quiet, and the storms come off the mountains without much announcement. Reading a property in the headlights, setting the blade right, stacking the snow where it won't block the view backing out — that's the part nobody sees and everybody feels. When the sun finally hits clean pavement, the night was worth it.
