Saturday morning on the Corinth Road side of Queensbury has a sound to it — somebody's mower two streets over, a truck door, the West Glens Falls quiet underneath. Ladd's mowing adds to that chorus most of the week, cutting and trimming the yards through this end of town where the houses sit close and the lawns are the friendly sort of small. Small does not mean quick, though: a compact yard shows every crooked line and every missed corner along the fence. So the trimmer comes out for the posts and the mailbox and the shed, and the drive gets blown clean before we go. It's a plain job done properly, and a street where every third lawn is looked after starts to lift the ones between.
