Saturday morning in Woodhaven starts with the el on Jamaica Avenue and the sound of mowers picking up one street at a time. Oscar Abarca Landscaping is part of that sound — mowing front and back, edging the walk and the driveway apron, trimming along the chain link, weeding the beds and carrying off whatever the week left behind. The lots here run narrow and deep, so the difference between a yard that looks kept and one that doesn't lives entirely in the edges. In March the yard gets cleared of what winter dropped; in November the big street trees have to be answered before their leaves pack down. By afternoon the block looks like somebody thought about it.
