The night before a storm, Long Island City goes still in a way it never does otherwise: the loading docks quiet, the gantries lit, the river black and moving under the bridges. Load & Go Moving LLC spends that night with the trucks turned to snow work — plowing lots and driveways, shoveling walkways and entrances, and spreading salt so the morning can happen on schedule. Warehouses, apartment entrances, small storefronts along the avenues: each one needs its own approach and its own clean line. The measure is a lot cleared and squared off before the first delivery van shows up. When the next round comes through, they come back and do it again.
