On the Rockaway peninsula the weather comes off open water, so a February storm means wind first and snow sideways after. Lisena Landscaping is out in it, plowing driveways and lots, shoveling walks and front steps, and putting down salt so a doorway is usable by breakfast. In summer the same streets go soft and bright, and the work turns to mowing, edging, trimming and cleanups on lawns that live with sand, salt spray and a sea breeze every afternoon. Grass here earns its green. Cutting a path to a front door in a whiteout, or leaving a yard even and trimmed on a June morning — the work reads the same either way.
