Sunnyside Gardens was laid out around its courtyards, whole blocks turned inward to shared green while the 7 train rattles along the avenue outside. Mornings in May the courtyards smell of cut grass before the coffee shops open, and the work goes quietly enough that nobody has to move a stroller.
