The Raquette River drops through Potsdam in a run of white water at Fall Island — loud in spring, half-silenced under ice by January. A Cut Above works both ends of that year: mowing, trimming and edging when the village greens up, plowing and shoveling once the North Country is buried. Summer evenings run long here, and a lawn cut in that low gold light really is something to see. Winter mornings run the other way, dark and bitter, with a driveway that has to be open before anyone leaves. Red sandstone walls, wide country yards, tight village lots — the work fits whatever property it lands on. Either season, the aim holds steady: a place that looks kept.
