In Port Jefferson the streets climb straight up from the harbor, so a lawn here is rarely flat — it terraces, it leans toward the water, it catches the salt air coming in off the Sound. Organically Green mows and tends those yards through the long green stretch of the year, cutting to the grade rather than fighting it. Mornings start with fog sitting on the ferry slip and burn off by the time the last strip is edged. The reward is a lawn with its stripes running downhill toward the water, the kind you notice from the top of the block. Late in the season the maples along the side streets let go all at once, and the raking begins again.
