Port Jefferson Station rides the glacial hills of Long Island's North Shore, its streets rising and dipping over ground the last ice sheet left behind. Through the middle of it runs the Greenway Trail, a paved path along an old railroad right-of-way, shaded green for walkers and cyclists. Lawn Master keeps lawns mown and in shape across the hamlet, working yards that slope and roll with the terrain. In late summer the afternoon sun filters through the oaks, and grass cut evenly over those rises and hollows looks sculpted rather than flattened. Edges trimmed tight to the driveway, clippings blown clear, a long walk in the shade still to come: that is a North Shore yard the way it ought to be.
