Saturday mornings around Barker Common, Fredonia's green fills up — the market, the old trees, people out walking — and the lawns on the streets running off it are held to a village standard. Harpers Landscaping keeps to it: mowing on a steady rotation, trimming tight along fences and foundations, edges cut where grass meets sidewalk, and cleanups when a yard needs opening in spring and closing in late fall. Pomfret's older streets have deep front lawns under big maples, which means shade, moss, and a mower that has to be run with some thought. Done right, a whole block looks like it agreed on something. That is a fine thing to drive past.
