Sparkling Grounds

About Sparkling Grounds

After a Plainfield snowfall the upland fields lie blue-white under a low moon, and every fence post along the road wears a soft round cap. Sparkling Grounds clears snow in this quiet stretch of Otsego County, plowing driveways and lots and opening the walks that winter keeps burying. Country storms here ride in on wind across open ground, so a good job is one that holds its shape until the next one arrives. On a cold, bright morning the result lives up to the name: pavement scraped bare, corners neatly trued, the banks on either side throwing back the sun like crushed glass. Out where the hills roll away in every direction, that tidy dark rectangle of cleared ground is a welcome sight.
