West of the village the Erie Canal rides the Great Embankment high above the Irondequoit valley — water carried over a landscape, which is a fair description of work that takes some doing. Joe Cutter's Turf & Snow puts that same effort into ordinary ground: mowing on a set rotation through summer, trimming and edging so the lawn ends exactly where it should, cleaning yards up in spring and hauling leaves once the canopy turns. When the season flips, the trucks go out with blades and salt to open drives, lots and walkways ahead of the morning. Turf and snow are two crafts joined at the calendar, and Pittsford asks for both. The satisfaction is identical either way — ground left in better order than it was found.
