The old Auburn rail line still crosses Perinton as a cinder path, straight and quiet where trains used to be, hedged in sumac and goldenrod. Garden To Grass takes a property the same way — from the planted beds at the house out to the open lawn, mowing, trimming, edging and hauling off whatever autumn drops. Late September is the honest hour of the season here: cool mornings, heavy dew, grass growing slower and better for it. A lawn cut then holds its color for weeks. There is real pleasure in closing a yard down for the year and knowing exactly how it will look in April.
