About Amaxx Inc

At three in the morning the hills above Pawling hold a storm the way a bowl holds water — Quaker Hill white to the treeline, Route 22 a pale ribbon running north. Amaxx Inc works those hours, when the plow trucks are the only thing moving in the valley and the radio is mostly static. Snow removal up here means knowing which driveways pitch toward the road and which ones catch the drift, then opening them before the first headlights come down off the ridge. The reward is small and it is the entire point: black pavement at sunrise, a mailbox you can actually reach, a car that goes where it needs to go. By the time Pawling wakes up, the work has already happened.
