By mid-October the water at Ice Pond takes on the color of the hills standing over it, and Patterson lawns get the last few cuts of their year. Davidson Landscaping is out for all of them, mowing, edging and raking leaves down and away so the grass goes into the cold clean. Weeks later the same trucks come back with blades on the front, and the work turns to driveways, walkways and salted approaches. Doing both halves of the calendar on one property makes a crew careful with it — you learn where the beds end, where gravel gives way to lawn, which corner a plow should never touch. That memory is honestly half the job.
