The Old Croton Aqueduct runs through Ossining as a long green spine, a level path laid over a buried river, with yards backing onto it the whole way. Alfredo's Landscaping & Masonry Inc works the properties along that grassy line and the streets that feed it — mowing, trimming, mulching, and clearing the beds out at both ends of the season. Come winter the same trucks are out plowing and salting, opening driveways before the first shovel of the day gets picked up by anyone else. A yard that borders a trail is seen by strangers all summer, which is a good reason to keep the edges tight. Ossining and the towns beside it get the year handled straight through.
