The early train out of Ossining leaves while the platform lights are still the brightest thing in town. Getting to it means backing down a driveway that spent the night collecting whatever blew in off the valley — and somebody has to have been there first. Alberto Disisto Contractor keeps those hours, plowing drives, clearing walks and putting salt down on the steep aprons that freeze glassy before sunrise. There's a plain kind of pride in a black driveway at five in the morning with the banks stacked square on either side. The truck works the village hills and the roads out toward the neighboring towns, night after night, for as long as the storm runs.
