January in the Mohawk Valley collects cold the way a bowl collects water, and by five in the morning Oriskany Boulevard is packed white and silent. Dom Tech Enterprise is already out in it — plowing driveways and lots, clearing walks and steps, putting salt down ahead of the refreeze. When the thaw finally takes hold, the same trucks turn to mowing, edging, trimming and the cleanups that follow a long winter. The old canal line and the streets beside it hold snow first and puddles later; both are just part of a year here. Whitesboro, Marcy, Whitestown and Rome all sit inside the loop.
