Olean sits on the flats, but the streets north of downtown climb, and a hillside yard asks more of everyone who works it — steeper mowing lines, drives that shed water in July and glaze over in January. Hillside Landscaping takes the grade as it comes: mowing, trimming, mulching beds and clearing debris while the ground is still soft, then plowing, shoveling and sanding those same slopes once they harden. There is real pleasure in a steep drive brought down to bare stone with a gritted track running up the middle. And in the summer version of it — a hill lawn cut in confident, level stripes. Both halves of the year, on Olean's hills and the roads around them.
