The alarm goes off at three. Outside, Ogden is a blue-white blank and the lake has been feeding the sky all night. WeDo Snow goes out into it — plowing driveways and lots, shoveling walks and steps, salting where a boot would otherwise skate. There is no clever version of this work; there is only being awake, being early, and coming back when the wind fills a drive in a second time. By the hour the school buses roll, the properties are open, the banks are squared, and the trucks are quiet again.
