About Domenick Bulfamante and Sons Inc.

Huguenot Lake wakes up early in April — geese on the water, the willows going gold-green, joggers out before the town is properly awake. Domenick Bulfamante and Sons Inc. is usually out before them, because the first mow of the year has to be timed to the ground and not the calendar. New Rochelle's soil warms unevenly, the streets near the lake holding damp long after the higher blocks have dried, and a mower put down too soon leaves ruts a season can't hide. Wait for the right week and everything follows: the cut clean, the bed lines carved sharp against the mulch, the hedges brought back to shape. It is ordinary work in a town that has kept its lawns since the Huguenots laid out the first of these lots, and there is quiet pride in doing it well.
